Range is a very important aspect to any potentials models "promotions" package. This guide is written for those new to or considering modelling. I have used a kind of shorthand in this guide - so professional models/photographers/clients might question some of the explanations as being to simple - but then they are professional and know it all - so why are they reading this anyways!! Most "self promote" model sites such as StarNow or Purestorm have a range section to either indicate the model experience or their modelling intent. It is also true that many new members to these sites indicate they will do anything without always knowing what the term actually means. On a shoot with someone with no experience often the first hour is explaining all this to them, and using information sheets I provide. Now theres this useful webpage version! Fitness/Sports & Physique:- To include all kinds of sports activity and style - to show the build and body tone of the model for example. So it can be modelling say in sports kit, taking part in sporting activity or showing off physique, bodybuilders would be included here for example. Models undertaking this kind of casting should be prepared to dress down.
With male models physique on their first shoots is often the most popular option. And often one they choose to major on. Being good at the sport in question often dos'nt matter on photoshoots! Solongs you look the part - like in acting to play a murderer you don't have to kill anyone! Fashion:- Styles and dress matter here although it dos'nt always follow that it has to be the latest fashion! The model is there to promote or illustrate the fashion look. Ofcourse it can include Runway and latest style houses - it can be mondane it can be exciting - it as wide ranging as fashion itself. To shoot fashion commercially is a hard world where height and look plays a major part. It can include anything from streetwear to underwear - it can be modern or classic - but the model is there as the "clotheshanger" to wear it!
Runway:- The stage is yours - to walk the catwalk! Height and look are strict in Commercial work. Print/Magazine/Editorial. Really this envelops many of the ranges - basically articles in print, magazine and published illustration shoots etc. Stock Photo:- Images not shot always for a client but to be held in the photographers/agents files for sale to those looking to illustrate an article or website etc. Stock photo is probably best known for "places" ie "Picture of Big Ben" to illustrate an article on London. Stock photo's in relation to modelling will often tend to be "doing or practical shots".
